National Security Advisor of Afghanistan visits India

New Delhi, Nov 10 (IBNS): Afghanistan's National Security Advisor Hanif Atmar visited India from Nov 8 to Nov 9 at the invitation of India's National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit K. Doval,officials said on Tuesday.

Apart from holding talks with NSA, Atmar called on Defence Minister, met Foreign Secretary Dr. S. Jaishankar and attended a discussion in the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses.

"The Indian interlocutors of Mr. Atmar reiterated India’s strong commitment and support for a united, sovereign, democratic, stable and prosperous Afghanistan," India's Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

Atmar conveyed appreciation of his country’s leadership, its government and the Afghan people for reliable and predictable assistance from India.

During the visit, the two sides discussed various aspects of regional security, particularly terrorism which threatens peace and stability of the region.

"They also discussed ways and means to enhance cooperation between India and Afghanistan to strengthen the latter’s defence capabilities for safeguarding its security and combating all forms of terrorism," read the statement.
