Army Chief of NDFB(S) and his associate nabbed in Assam

Guwahati, Sept 25 (IBNS) : Security forces on Friday apprehended the Army Chief of Bodo militant group NDFB(S) and his PSO from Assam’s Chirang district, officials said.

Assam police IGP of BTAD LR Bisnoi said that, based on intelligence input police, army and SSB had jointly launched operation at Morabari jungle area near Hakura river in the BTAD district and nabbed the top militant leader and his associate.

The nabbed militants were identified as Rabi Basumutary alias Rongjabaja and his PSO Jwnglaw Narzary alias Jekhai.

“The self styled Army Chief of the outfit group was involved in the killing of Narayan Barman, the then in-charge of Rupsi outpost in Kokrajhar district on September 26, 2013,” Bisnoi said.

Security forces recovered one AK 56 rifle, 170 rounds of AK ammunition, 50 rounds of INSAS ammunition and four hand grenades in possession from them.
 
Recently, Lt Gen Sarath Chand, General Officer Commanding Gajraj Corps in a joint press briefing along with Khagen Sarma, DGP of Assam in Chirang,  had informed that the Army along with the Assam Police and other CAPF’s are launching a joint operation to eliminate the remnants of NDFB(S), to rid the region of these terror mongers.

Army, Assam Police and other CAPF’s under the aegis of the Unified Command planned and successfully executed the meticulously intended ‘Operation All Out’ against the NDFB(S).

Since January 2015, ‘OPs ALL OUT’ against the NDFB (S) has been intensified , especially in places along Indo-Bhutan border, forest areas of Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Sonitpur with the deployment of approximately 4000 troops.

“At least 18 terrorists of the outfit were neutralized, 541 terrorists/OGWs were apprehended along with recovery of 176 assorted weapons, 184 hand grenades and 7 IEDs so far,” the top police official said.
