Discontinuation of postage stamps on Gandhi's narrow and vindictive attitude of Centre: Assam CM
Guwahati, Sept 17 (IBNS): Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Thursday said that the decision of the Modi-led NDA Government at the Centre to discontinue the postage stamps on former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi is a great disrespect and dishonour to them.
In a statement here, Gogoi said that the decision of the Central Government to discontinue the postage stamps on the two former Prime Ministers is an insult to history and to belittle their contributions to make modern India.
“The decision of the Central Government exposes its narrow and vindictive attitude towards the two towering personalities who contributed a lot in making of India and in sacrificing their lives for the nation’s unity and integrity. It’s a mean and rude way to rewrite history by belittling the contribution of the two great personalities,” Gogoi said.
“Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s contributions in making the country attain self sufficiency on the food front, ameliorating the condition of the poor and downtrodden, nationalisation of banks, making India a nuclear power and her sacrifice for the country’s unity and integrity will be remembered for generations to come. So also former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s contributions in empowering women and youth by lowering the voting age, strengthening democracy through the three-tier panchayati raj system, revolutionising Communications and Information Technology on which PM Modi’s ‘Digital India’ hinges, and his sacrifice for the country’s unity and integrity. Despite the present Central Government’s attempt to relegate their contributions, the people will always fondly remember them for what they have done for the country,” the Assam CM said.
