Guwahati, Aug 12 (IBNS) : Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday said the Government of Assam welcomes the Naga Peace Accord if it excludes the extended areas of Naga inhabitation in the state.

In a statement Gogoi said the Government of Assam 'definitely welcomes' the Naga Peace Accord if the framework for any settlement excludes the extended areas of Naga inhabitation in Assam.

Gogoi further said that it augurs well if the Naga Peace Accord leads to settlement of all vexed issues thus eventually paving the way for peace, progress and prosperity in Nagaland and the region as a whole.

In a significant move, the Centre on Aug 3 signed a peace accord with the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN)'s Isaac Muivah faction

The signing was held at Modi's official residence here at 7, Race Course Road.
