CBI registers corruption cases against ex-Noida chief engineer

New Delhi, Aug 4 (IBNS): The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered two separate cases against ex- Chief Engineer, Noida or Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway Authorities, Uttar Pradesh, and others, including his family members and associates, officials said.

The move was made on the orders 'dated 16.07.2015 of Hon’ble High Court of Judicature at Allahabad, Lucknow Bench passed in Misc. Bench No. 12396 of 2014'.

The CBI was directed to conduct an investigation into allegations of corruption and amassing of unaccounted money by the accused in regard to all transactions, persons & entities connected thereto.

"The First case has been registered against the then Chief Engineer, NOIDA/Greater NOIDA & Yamuna Expressway Authorities (UP) and his family members/associate U/s 120-B r/w 109 of IPC and Section 13 (2) r/w 13 (1) (e) of PC Act 1988. It was alleged that then Chief Engineer & his family members/associates amassed huge movable and immovable assets during the period 2009-2014 which were disproportionate to his known sources of income," the CBI said in a statement.

"It was also alleged that in the month of Nov. 2014, several incriminating documents and the Income Tax Returns were allegedly recovered during searches, conducted by another Agency/Department of Government of India, at several premises of the said accused persons. The scrutiny of these ITRs and other connecting records have allegedly revealed that during the period 2009-2014, the total likely savings of the family of then Chief Engineer was Rs.1.70 crores(approx) whereas they were in possession of immovable property worth Rs.3.60 crores(approx). Besides, an amount of Rs.10 crores(approx) was allegedly recovered from one of his associates, which also reportedly belonged to then Chief Engineer," the probe agency said.


"The second case has been registered against the then Chief Engineer, NOIDA/Greater NOIDA & Yamuna Expressway Authorities (UP), and other unknown persons U/s 120-B r/w 409, 420, 466, 467, 469, 471 of IPC and Section 13 (2) r/w 13 (1)(d) of PC Act 1988," it said.

The local Police had also registered an FIR at a police station in Noida on 13.06.2012.

"The FIR ended in closure and a Final report was filed in the trial court by the local police on 30.01.2014 which was accepted by the Court on 27.11.2014. The allegations leveled in the FIR were that the then Chief Engineer, NOIDA/Greater NOIDA & Yamuna Expressway Authorities entered into criminal conspiracy with unknown private persons/firms and awarded various contracts without following the laid down procedures and thereby caused undue pecuniary gain to the tune of crores of rupees to private firms and to himself," read the CBI statament.

Searches are being conducted today at 16 places, including 13 places at Noida, Greater Noida and one each at Agra, Ferozabad and  Lucknow in UP .
