West Bengal is voting in the fourth phase of the high-voltage Assembly elections on Saturday. The fourth phase of Bengal assembly polls will cover 44 Assembly constituencies and 5 districts which include South 24 Parganas, Hooghly, Howrah, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar. Around 1crore 16 lakh voters are expected to cast their votes in this phase. 373 candidates, including 50 females, are contesting in this phase.

CISF spokesperson's statement on firing at Sitalkuchi poll booth

"Mob outside booth no 126 at Jorpatki in Sitalkuchi AC in West Bengal attacked CISF jawans performing poll duty and tried to snatch their weapons. In self-defence and to save polling officials, jawans deployed at the polling station fired 6-8 rounds": CISF Spokesperson.

Family allegedly attacked in Budge Budge for complaining about irregularity in EVM

Four of a family alleged that they were attacked by 15-20 unknown miscreants and their car was vandalized 100 metres away from a polling station in Budge Budge in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on Saturday.

The family claimed that it had come under the attack after one of them had alleged an irregularity in the EVM machine while casting his vote.

A complaint has been registered with the Budge Budge Police Station, investigation has been initiated.

Voting has been adjourned in Polling Booth no. 126 at Jorepatki under Sitalkuchi AC in Cooch Behar district of West Bengal, where four persons were shot dead earlier allegedly in CAPF firing. The date of re-poll in the booth will be announced later: Election Commission of India.

CISF fired in self-defense: Source tells IBNS

Sources in the CISF told IBNS: After being informed that villages were being obstructed by miscreants from casting their votes, additional forces of CISF as Quick Response Team (QRT) were deployed to the scene. Hundreds of local villagers had geraoed the CISF personnel and started demonstrating.

Soon situation turned violent as miscreants from the gathering of local villagers attacked CISF personnel and attempted to snatch their rifles. CISF had to fire bullets in self-defense. We will be sending a detailed report of the incident to the ECI shortly.

At least four shot dead allegedly by CAPF in Cooch Behar, ECI seeks report

At least four persons were killed and several others were injured as Central paramilitary force personnel allegedly fired bullets outside polling booth no. 126 at Jorepatki area under Sitalkuchi Assembly Constituency in Cooch Behar district of northern West Bengal on Saturday, reports said.

Locals alleged that during a verbal altercation, few CAPF jawans suddenly shot multiple bullets that left at least four persons killed.

TMC claimed that all four persons killed were its supporters and went to cast their votes.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has sought a report to know in which condition the CAPF had to fire bullets.

Earlier in morning, an 18-year-old youth, identified as Ananda Barman, was shot dead outside polling booth no. 285 at Pathantuli Shalbari area under the same assembly constituency when he was going to cast his life's first vote.

BJP leaders claimed that the teenager belonged to a BJP-supporter family and was shot dead by TMC men, though local TMC leadership denied their involvement in the incident.

ECI is examining this matter too.

Around 15.85 pc turnout till 9.30 AM in Bengal; 1,15,81,022 electorate exercised their franchise

Amid elaborate security arrangements, around 15.85 per cent of 1,15,81,022 electorate exercised their franchise till 9.30 AM on Saturday in the fourth phase West Bengal Assembly election to 44 seats to decide the fate of 373 candidates, an Election Commission (EC) official here said. Long queues were seen outside polling stations, where voting will continue till 6.30 PM.
