West Bengal reports 3,188 Covid-19 cases in 24 hours

West Bengal, the eastern state of India, reported 3,188 Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. 56 people succummbed to the virus in the same period. 

2,993 people, who were infected with the virus, have recovered in the last 24 hours. 

The total number of active Covid-19 cases in the state is now 24,648 while the toll has touched 4,298. 

 

Bangladesh registers 1,567 fresh nCoV cases, with 32 deaths

Bangladesh has reported 1,567 fresh novel coronavirus cases and 32 deaths on Saturday, making the tally at 347,372 and death toll at 4,913, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.

The official data showed that 13,170 samples were tested in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh.

The total number of recovered patients in the country stood at 254,386, including 2,051 new recoveries on Saturday, said the DGHS.
According to the official data, the coronavirus fatality rate in Bangladesh is now 1.41 percent and the current recovery rate is 73.23 percent.

Bangladesh has recorded the highest daily new cases of 4,019 on July 2 and the highest number of deaths of 64 on June 30.

644 new COVID-19 cases reported in Goa, recovery rate improves to 77.82%

The total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Goa has gone up to 26,783 as 644 people tested positive on Friday while total number of people who succumbed to the infection increased to 327 as eight people died on same day.

According to Directorate of Health Services, 399 people recovered during the last 36 hours pushing the recovering rate to 77.82% and total number of recovered patients to 20,844.

Marathwada reports 46 more deaths due to COVID-19

The Marathwada region of Maharashtra on Saturday reported as many as 46 fresh COVID-19 fatalities across the eight district of the region during the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile the region also reported 1,606 fresh cases of COVID-19, authorities said on Saturday.

Over 95,000 patients recover in 24 hours, Covid-19 tally crosses 53 lakh

In a ray of light for the country of 1.3 billion amid the Covid-19 pandemic, a record 95,880 people who were infected with the virus have recovered in the last 24 hours.

42,08,431 people have so far recovered from the respiratory disease in the country so far.

India, the worst Covid-19-affected Asian country, on Saturday reported 93,337 positive cases, taking the overall tally of infections to 53,08,014.

The Covid-19 toll has touched 85,619 with 1,247 deaths reported in 24 hours between Friday and Saturday mornings.

"Last Friday had got examined and was tested Negative hence attended Parliament ! But last night I had a headache plus mild fever, got examined and tested positive for Covid-19 !" Sahasrabuddhe said in his tweet on Thursday.

 

More research needed into COVID-19 effects on children, says WHO head

More research is needed into factors that increase the risk of severe COVID-19 disease among children and adolescents, the head of the UN World Health Organization (WHO) has said, adding that while children may have largely been spared many of the most severe effects, they have suffered in other ways.

Joining the heads of the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), at a press conference on Tuesday, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus outlined that since the start of the COVID pandemic, understanding its effects on children has been a priority. 

“Nine months into the pandemic, many questions remain, but we are starting to have a clearer picture. We know that children and adolescents can be infected and can infect others”, he said.

UN chief: COVID-19 vaccine must be affordable and available to all

The continuing COVID-19 pandemic continues to top a long list of global concerns, the UN chief told journalists on Wednesday, noting that “the grimmest of milestones” is upon us.

“The outbreak remains out of control”, Secretary-General António Guterres declared in his press conference ahead of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) High Level Week, noting that soon one million lives will be “lost to the virus”. 

Recognizing that many pin their hopes on a vaccine, he said, “let’s be clear: there is no panacea in a pandemic”. 

“A vaccine alone cannot solve this crisis, certainly not in the near term”, stressed the world’s top diplomat. “We need to massively expand new and existing tools that can respond to new cases and provide vital treatment to suppress transmission and save lives, especially over the next 12 months”.

India reports 96,424 Covid-19 cases in 24 hours, tally crosses 52-lakh mark

India, a country of 1.3 billion people, on Friday reported over 96,000 Covid-19 cases pushing the tally of infections beyond the 52-lakh mark.

In the last 24 hours, the country has added 96,424 Novel Coronavirus cases and 1,174 deaths due to the contagion.

The overall Covid-19 tally in the country is now 52,14,678.

84,372 people who were infected with the virus have so far died since the reporting of the first Covid-19 case in the country back in late January.

Maharashtra Police tally over 20k, death toll at 208

At least 364 Maharashtra Police personnel tested COVID-19 positive while four died of the infection in the past 24 hours across the state, an official said on Thursday.

With this, 20,367 state police personnel, including 2,218 officers, have so far been infected while 208 have succumbed to the contagion.

814 new cases push Rajasthan's tally to 1,08,494

Rajasthan on Thursday reported 814 fresh Covid-19 cases, which pushed the state's pandemic tally to 1,08,494, according to an official statement.

Seven more fatalities have taken the death toll to 1,286, it added.

One death each recorded in Jaipur, Ajmer, Bikaner, Chittorgarh, Ganganagar, Jhunjhunu and Sikar.

India adds close to 98,000 Covid-19 cases in 24 hours, tally crosses 51-lakh mark

The total number of Novel Coronavirus cases in India on Thursday crossed the 51-lakh mark as the country of 1.3 billion people reported a record spike in Covid-19 cases by adding 97,894 fresh infections in the last 24 hours.

With the new cases, India's Covid-19 tally has touched 51,18,253.

83,198 Covid-19 patients have so far succumbed to the virus with 1,132 people dying from the disease in the last 24 hours.

Karnataka Home Minister tests positive for Covid-19

Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday.

In a tweet in Kannada, the minister stated that he is asymptomatic.

As per the doctor's advice, he will be on home isolation. He also asked those who came in contact with him recently to go for a test and take precautionary measures.

Serum Institute gets DCGI nod to resume Covid-19 vaccine

The Serum Institute of India (SII) has got the nod of the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) to resume the phase two and three trials for Covid-19 vaccine.

The SII had reportedly sought permission from the DCGI to resume trials for the vaccine developed by pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca and Oxford University.

Nearly 550,000 children in U.S. test positive for COVID-19

Nearly 550,000 children in the United States have been diagnosed with COVID-19 since the onset of the pandemic, according to a new report of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children's Hospital Association.

A total of 72,993 new child cases were reported from Aug. 27 through Sept. 10, which is a 15 percent increase in child cases over two weeks, according to the report.

Altogether 549,432 total child COVID-19 cases have been reported in the United States so far, and children represented 10 percent of all cases, said the report.

The overall rate is 729 cases per 100,000 children in the population.

India's total COVID-19 cases cross 50-lakh mark

India's COVID-19 tally crossed the 50-lakh mark with  90,123 new cases reported in the past 24 hours, as per Ministry of Health figures revealed on Wednesday.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in India now stands at 50,20,360, including 9,95,933 active cases.

In the past 24 hours, 1290 deaths have been reported.

The death toll due to the highly infectious disease now stands at 82066.  

So far, 3942360 people have recovered from the disease.

India's recovery rate now stands at 78.53 percent.

Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu tests positive for COVID-19

Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu on Tuesday confirmed that he has tested positive for COVID19.

He informed his followers about his health on Twitter.

"I had undergone Covid test RT-PCR and have tested positive for Covid19," he tweeted.

Marathwada region reports 1731 fresh COVID-19 cases, 39 fatalities

As many as 1,731 fresh COVID-19 cases were recorded across the eight districts of Marathwada region during the past 24 hours, authorities said on Tuesday.

The districts also witnessed 39 for more fatalities during the same period of time.

11 patients discharged from hospitals on Chinese mainland

The National Health Commission said Tuesday that 11 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery on the Chinese mainland Monday.

There were 142 patients still being treated, including one in severe condition, the commission said in its daily report.

Altogether 80,426 patients had been cured and discharged from hospitals by Monday, the report said.

As of Monday, a total of 85,202 confirmed COVID-19 cases had been reported on the mainland, among whom 4,634 died of the disease.

India: Over 83,000 new COVID-19 cases registered in past 24 hours

India registered 83, 809 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, Ministry of Health data released on Tuesday revealed.

India has now touche the 49-lakh mark.

The total COVID-19 cases in the country now stands at  49,30,237.

In the past 24 hours, 1054 death have been reported, taking the toll to 80776.

There are  990061 active cases in the country at present.

New Zealand prolongs COVID-19 restrictions for one more week

New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced on Monday an extension of coronavirus restrictions for one more week, until September 21.

New Zealand will remain at level 2 of restrictions until 23:59 local time (11:59 GMT) on September 21, Ardern said on Monday, at a press conference broadcast on Facebook.

The city of Auckland will remain at alert level 2.5 until September 23, the Prime Minister said.

India reports over 92,000 Covid-19 cases, 1,136 deaths in 24 hours

India, the worst Covid-19-affected Asian country, on Monday reported 92,071 Covid-19 cases taking the overall tally of infections to cross 48-lakh mark.

With the fresh Novel Coronavirus cases, the total number of infections in the country of 1.3 billion people has now touched 48,46,428.

1,136 Covid-19 patients succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, pushing the toll to 79,722.
