Covid-19 cases zooming in Unlock 4, Centre wants worst-affected states to hit hard

Already grappling with a battered economy, India on the fifth day of Unlock 4 registered the sharpest spike of over 86,000 Covid-19 cases, forcing the government to focus on the hard-hit states first.

The Centre exhorted the states of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka to take aggressive measures to break the chain of transmission and ensure that the mortality was kept below one per cent as these three states account for nearly 49 per cent of the total active cases and more than 57 per cent of Covid deaths.

Tamil Nadu reports 5,870 fresh cases, 61 fatalities

Tamil Nadu reported 5,870 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, pushing the case load to 4,57,697 while the death toll mounted to 7,748 with 61 more fatalities.

Health department in its bulletin said of the 61 deaths, 40 were reported in government hospitals and 21 in private hospitals.

Of the 5,870 total cases today, 5,861 were indigenous cases and 9 were imported cases – those who returned from abroad and other states by air and by road.

The total number of active cases stood at 51,583.

6 more die, 241 new infections at Jalandhar

Six more Covid-19 positive patients died on Saturday taking the total death count to 194 in the district.

Reports of 241 suspects received Saturday took the total tally to 7617 confirmed cases in the district of which 4819 patients have been discharged from the civil hospital and other Covid Care facilities in the district.

The patients discharged till date include 94 those who were discharged today after recovery.

India reports over 86,000 Covid-19 cases, tally crosses 40-lakh mark

In more worry for the Asian country of 1.3 billion people, India on Saturday reported the biggest daily-spike in Novel Coronavirus cases by adding over 86,000 fresh infections in the last 24 hours.

With 86,432 cases, India's Coronavirus tally has touched 40,23,179.

As 1,089 Covid patients have succumbed to the virus in 24 hours between Friday and Saturday mornings, the toll has touched 69,561.

So far in India, 31,07,223 patients have been discharged while there are 8,46,395 people still infected with the virus.

No fatalities reported in Thane city

Thane city which recorded several deaths due to COVID-19 in the past few months reported zero fatalities in the past 24 hrs, district health officials said on Friday.

The district recorded a recovery rate of 86.71 pc (1,11,362), the mortality of 2.84 (3,643).

The official said that with an addition of as many as 1,590 positive cases during the day the district tally has increased to 1,28,429 positive cases maximum of them being from Kalyan 30,054, followed by Navi Mumbai which was 27,112. Thane city recorded a total of 26,735 cases and Mira Bhayander 13,149 and Thane rural was fast approaching a total of 10,000 the official said.

India reports over 83,000 Covid-19 cases for second consecutive day, tally crosses 39 lakh

India on Friday reported over 83,000 fresh Covid-19 cases for the second consecutive day, pushing the overall tally of infections in the country of 1.3 billion people beyond 39 lakh.

The country has witnessed a spike of 83,341 new cases in 24 hours between Thursday and Friday mornings, taking the tally to 39,36,748, as per the data provided by India's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The Covid toll has touched 68,472 as 1,096 Coronavirus patients have succumbed to the virus in the same period of time.

As of now, the country has 8,31,124 active Covid cases while 30,37,151 patients have been discharged.

Thane reports over 1,000 cases

37 patients succumbed to the COVID-19 while 1,487 new cases were detected during the past 24 hours across Thane, taking this district's pandemic tally to 1,26,839, informed a senior district official on Thursday.

Out of the new cases, the highest ie. 429 were detected from Kalyan followed by 346 in Navi Mumbai, Thane recorded 273 cases while Mira Bhayander recorded 191 new cases. The remaining cases reported were from the limits of other civic bodies and rural areas and were below the 100-mark.

India sees biggest single-day spike with over 83,000 new cases, tally crosses 38-lakh mark

India, the worst Novel Coronavirus-affected Asian country, on Thursday witnessed the biggest single-day spike in Covid-19 cases with over 83,000 fresh infections in the last 24 hours.

With new 83,833 cases, the Covid tally has now touched 38,53,406.

In the last 24 hours, 11,72,179 samples were tested, the highest in a single day since the outbreak of the virus in India in late January.

The Covid toll has touched 67,376 with new 1,043 deaths.

India's fresh 78,357 Covid-19 cases push tally close to 38 lakh, 1,045 deaths in last 24 hours

India, which has been adding the biggest daily spike in Novel Coronavirus cases, reported 78,357 new infections in the last 24 hours pushing the overall tally to close to 38 lakh.

With 1,045 new deaths in the last one day, the Covid toll has now touched 66,333.

However, the recovery rate has also been steady in the country of 1.3 billion people as the total discharged cases went past 29 lakh with the recovery of 62,026 patients in 24 hours between Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

Marathwada records new 41 COVID cases in past 24 hours

At least 41 coronavirus-infected patients which was highest so far were succumbed across in the eight districts of Marathwada region of Maharashtra during the past 24 hours.

While 1,179 coronavirus cases were also spotted in these districts during the same period, authorities said on Tuesday .

India records 69,921 new COVID-19 cases

India on Tuesday recorded  69,921 new COVID-19 cases and 819 deaths, the Ministry of Health released data revealed.

The death toll due to the disease now stands at 65288.

With the fresh rise in cases, the overall tally has now reached nearly 3.7 million.
There are 785,996 active cases in the country at present.

The country has also witnessed 2.83 million recoveries so far.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah discharged from AIIMS

Union Home MInister Amit Shah, who admitted to AIIMS here for post-COVID care, has been discharged, media reports said.

He was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Aug 2.

On Aug 14, he had confirmed that he had tested negative for COVID19.

He was admitted to  Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon for COVID-19 treatment.

The Home Minister was later admitted to the AIIMS on August 18 after he complained of fatigue and body aches, reports Times Now.

West Bengal observing complete lockdown

West Bengal is observing complete lockdown for the sixth day today this month as part of the bi-weekly lockdown imposed across the state since July 23 to break the Covid-19 pandemic chain even as the toll rose to 3176 with the death of 50 persons on Sunday, while the tally touched 1,59,785 with 3,019 new confirmed cases.

Life came to a standstill with the streets wearing a deserted look, shops downing shutters, banks remaining closed, flights remaining suspended and vehicles going off the roads.

New Zealand reports 9 new cases of COVID-19 as Auckland relaxes restrictions

New Zealand reported nine new cases of COVID-19 on Monday as the largest city Auckland relaxed restrictions but required mask wearing on public transport.

Among the nine new cases, four are in managed isolation facilities and five are in the community, according to the Ministry of Health.

Of the four imported cases, three females - one in her 30s, one in her 20s, and a child - arrived from India on Aug. 22 and all tested negative around Day 3 of their stay in managed isolation. They were each retested as a contact of a previously reported case, and subsequently returned a positive result, a ministry statement said.

India registers over 78,000 new COVID19 cases in 24 hours

India registered 78,512 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, as per government data released on Monday.

India also recorded 971 deaths during the same period.

There are 781975 active COVD-19 cases in the country at present.

So far, 2774801 people have recovered from the highly contagious disease.

The death toll due to the disease now stands at 64469.
