The Samajwadi Party complained to the Election Commission of that its workers and leaders in Gorakhpur had been harassed during the polling on Sunday.

An SP delegation, led by senior leaders Udaveer Singh Yadav and Anand Bhadoria, met the UP EC officials here and complained about the detention of SP leaders in Gorakhpur, on the orders of BJP government, thus influencing the polling.

CPI-M alleges rigging

Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury said no efforts were made to stop the hijacking of democracy in Bengal.

"Massive rigging including in Diamond Harbour, Dum Dum, North Kolkata. There are no central forces, no efforts to stop the highjacking of Democracy. EC cannot merely watch it needs to intervene decisively. It is the people resisting this violence and wresting back their rights," alleged Yechury in a post on Twitter on a day when Bengal witnessed widespread violence in polling.

Indian PM Narendra Modi urges people to cast their votes

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday asked voters to cast their votes in the final phase of the Lok Sabha polls. Modi urged people to voite in record number in this phase of polling.

Singh tweeted: "Polling for seventh and the last phase of Lok Sabha polls has started. I request all the voters of 59 seats going to polls today to come out and vote in record numbers. Your vote has the power to strengthen democracy and build the future of this country. कृपया मतदान अवश्य करें।"
