Kohima/Nagaland: Khonoma village in Nagaland, known for its lush greenery, recently celebrated the 'Thekranyi Festival' with the theme of 'Excelling in the 21st century'.

The festival, dedicated to the youth, took place at the Community Hall, Terhotsiese Khonoma, located approximately 20 km from Kohima town.

The event was graced by the presence of Abu Metha, the Advisor to the Chief Minister, and hosted by Salhoutuonuo Kruse, the state's first female minister responsible for Horticulture & Women Resources, reported EastMojo.

Kruse explained that the festival serves as a gathering for the youth to come together, feast, and celebrate. The young participants form peer groups and contribute agricultural labor throughout the year to earn income for the festival. As part of the festivities, the youth visit the homes of their foster parents to share in the feasting.

Furthermore, Kruse highlighted that the festival also marks the beginning of paddy plantation for the farmers in the region.

Addressing the gathering, Abu Metha, as the special guest, assured the local community that the 'Thekranyi' festival would officially become a part of the state calendar. He emphasized that Nagaland is renowned as the land of festivals, which play a vital role in promoting the rich culture and heritage of the Naga people.

Metha expressed his belief that such celebrations are crucial for preserving the traditions and customs for future generations.

Metha also acknowledged the significant contributions made by Khonoma village, stating that it has produced exceptional individuals who have excelled in various fields and actively contributed towards the Naga people's aspiration for permanent peace in an honorable manner.

Highlighting the government's focus on inclusive development and progress, Metha called upon all residents to collaborate and work together as members of Team Nagaland to advance the state's growth.

He further proposed the establishment of the Khonoma Green Fund to boost the village's economy while conserving its rich biodiversity. Metha also encouraged the villagers to explore more horticultural activities, considering the village's historical significance and its potential as an eco-friendly destination.
