Kolkata, Dec 9 (IBNS) Arjuna awardee Jhulan Goswami, veteran actor Barun Chanda and film makers Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy were felicitated at the ‘Gaurav Awards’ by Rotary Club of Calcutta.

The awards are given to the change makers of the society  in recognition of the role of individuals from different walks of life who have tried to effect changes in lives of poor and needy.

Goswami, the former Indian national cricket team member, said as a sportsperson she was hopeful Rotary would inspire more people to look beyond themselves and do something for the society.

She in that context talked about how sports had helped her to mould an all inclusive, broad view about society.

Chairman of State Human Rights Naparajit Mukherjee, pledged support to the movement, the initiators.

Director duo Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy said while their films also dealt with the story of the common man's battle against adversity, they were physically present to lend voice to the cause.

Singer Paroma Dasgupta and elocutionist-actor Sujoy Prasad Chatterjee cast their spell with song-recitations in support of the cause.

Partho Mukherjee said on behalf of Rotary Club of Kolkata, "such recognition eggs on the awardee to carry on humanitarian work which can be solitary and ungainful ad fraught with danger."

The ceremony was held on November 27.
