"Part of Everyday Life": Abir Chatterjee joins Citizen's 50th eco-drive anniversary as Kolkata flagship reopens
Kolkata: Citizen Watches inaugurated a relocated flagship store at South City Mall on Thursday, marking the 50th anniversary of its Eco-Drive technology, with actor Abir Chatterjee joining the company's senior management for the opening.
Eco-Drive, introduced by the Japanese watchmaker five decades ago, converts light into power, removing the need for regular battery changes. The company said the technology reflects its broader push toward more sustainable watchmaking.
The relocated Kolkata store gives the brand an expanded retail space in the city, where guests viewed Citizen and Bulova's latest collections and spoke with senior management and business partners.
Chatterjee, who attended the inauguration, said watches were "part of everyday life" for him rather than just a fascination
"Citizen is one of the most trusted brands. We're in awe of its Japanese technology, art and design," he said, adding that he owns a Citizen watch himself.
Koichiro Usui, Managing Director of Citizen Watches India, called the relocation "an important milestone", saying it coincided meaningfully with the Eco-Drive anniversary.
"Kolkata has always been an important market for Citizen, and we look forward to offering our best to the watch enthusiasts in the city," he said.
The company said the new store is intended to strengthen its presence in Kolkata and offer an improved retail experience for local customers.
