Kolkata/IBNS: Standing on the threshold of their century year, the 95-year old Belgachhiya Sarbojonin Durgotsav community of north Kolkata, has chosen a theme titled ‘Maya Mahal- The Palace of Illusions’, for this year.

The entire planning, designing and execution was done by Subhrata Banerjee, who has won the Asian Paint Awards several times.

Bijoy Agarwal, Managing Director of GTPL KCBPL, a benefactor and active participant, said, “Each year, we plan the theme of the pandal carefully and involve the local community in designing and executing every inch of it. This makes everyone proud and happy to be part of the process which is appreciated by all those visiting pandal.”

For the organiers, festive fun is not the end all.

They also hold social welfare programmes; this year, they visited the popular pilgrimage centre Tarapith and distributed blankets to the needy and have further plans of distributing clothes, etc, on Mahasashthi.

The organisers have said that they will be distributing ‘bhog’ on Mahanavami to all visitors on Mahanavami (subject to timing).

If, for any reason, you are not able to reach the pandal, you may see a live telecast of the entire ceremony at a giant screen near Belgachhia metro railway station.
