Meghalaya: Garos celebrate New Year in traditional style by hosting Song Krittan

Imphal: Villagers in Bangsi Apal village of Meghalaya welcomed New Year in their own way by following the traditional path.

The Song Krittan held on Monday saw a sea of humanity descending on the festival ground. Usually, Songkirtans are a vibrant tradition of West Bengal and Manipur, where devotees sing praise in the name of Krishna. However, the tradition followed by the Garos is known as Song Kristan in popular parlance, reports The Shillong Times.

The Garo community follows the tradition in the region.

They sing devotional songs and dance to pay tribute to the Lord.

Every year, Grand Celebration Song Kristan Committee holds the event on January 2, the newspaper reported.

The organizers have been hosting the event since 2005.
