New Delhi/IBNS: Lakshyam, a social organization working largely for destitute women and children, recently organised a drive to distribute ration kits, solar lamps and sewing machines among slum-dwelling families in Delhi and Jharkhand.

The drive was organised in collaboration with Binomo, a trading platform, which has launched a campaign called ‘We Give Back to the Community’.

Lakshyam distributed solar lamps and sewing machines at Kirby Place, Delhi, where one of its centres is located.

According to the organisation, around 5000 families have been residing here for the past 22 years without any electricity.

While the solar lamps would encourage the children to study, the sewing machines would help the trained women to start their own entrepreneurial ventures.

The event was attended by Virender Singh, MLA of Delhi Cantonment, and Jagdish Rai, SHO, Dhaula Kuan.

Lakshyam also distributed 200 ration kits to underprivileged families living in Nala Camp in Delhi and in Namkum (on the outskirts of Ranch) in Jharkhand.

Lakshyam has installed a hand-pump in one of the slum areas of Ghaziabad.

They plan to install a few more in the coming months.

Some of Laksyam’s key programmes include ‘Butterfly’ where they provide basic education to impoverished children, a ‘Toy Library’ offering educational toys and games to children, and ‘Rooh’ where they encourage women to become self-employed after receiving vocational training and professional skills.
