New Delhi/IBNS:  While tomes are written about Lord Krishna, his beloved consort Radha often remains in the background.

But she is Krishna’s strength and Krishna’s heart rests with Radha believes Manoj Kumar Shrivastava, retired Additional Chief Secretary, Madhya Pradesh.

He said, “Radha is the song emanating out of Krishna’s flute.”

Delivering the Acharya Hazari Prasad Dwivedi Memorial Lecture hosted by the Kalanidhi Division of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi, Shrivastava spoke about ‘Bhaktikaal Mein Radha’, assessing the various nuances of her existence.

He reiterated that Radha's love is so soft that it cannot carry the weight of a relationship.

According to him, Radha and Krishna's love is not bound by societal norms but is a sacrifice (‘nisarg’) and it transcends human physicality.

He drew similarities between Radha and Mary (mother of Jesus) and said they ‘are the real images of purity’.

The lecture was chaired by Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi, Member Secretary, IGNCA, while the welcome and introductory address was given by Prof. Ramesh Chandra Gaur, HoD, Kalanidhi, IGNCA.

Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi said that Radha’s ‘Bhava’ (expression) is about unconditional love and Radha’s story does not just influence Krishna but the whole universe.
