How Kolkata ordered food on Swiggy in 2023: Chicken biriyani most ordered food; Gulabjamun outshined Rosogolla

Kolkata: Restaurant aggregator Swiggy Friday shared Kolkata’s top trends in food delivery with the How India Swiggy’d 2023. Swiggy’s year-end order analysis from Kolkata confirmed that food continued celebrated in the city.

Considered to be a haven for street food that tantalizes both the sweet tooth and the spice lover, the city catered to every palate from Biryani, Chinese, and South Indian, to Pizza. Not just street food, the city also fancied dining in from fine dining restaurants, placing over 8+ Lakh orders on Swiggy Gourmet.

Talking about the sweet tooth, during Durga Pujo, Gulab Jamuns outshined the iconic Roshogolla with over 77 lakh orders during Durga Puja.

Culinary Chronicles - What Kolkata ordered from Swiggy in 2023

The heart of Kolkata’s culinary scene beats for Biryani, as seen in the top 5 most-ordered dishes in the city. These include:

  • Chicken Biryani
  • Mutton Biryani
  • Chicken Darjeeling Steam Momo
  • Non-Veg Pizza
  • Margherita Pizza

Chicken Popcorn, Hot Chicken Wings, Hot & Crispy Chicken, and Hing Kachori emerged as the city’s top snacks.

When it came to desserts, Phirni, Gajar Ka Halwa, Shahi Kheer and Shahi Tukra were the top choices to fulfill the sweet cravings of Kolkata.

Not only did food enthusiasts enjoy ordering in, but they also made the most of Kolkata’s vibrant dining-out scene. Thanks to Swiggy Dineout, users saved a remarkable Rs 15 Crores while collectively spending Rs 62 Crores.

The highest individual bill processed through Swiggy Dineout peaked at Rs 1,10,328, highlighting the platform's significant impact on dining experiences.

Kolkata embraced the digital dining experience, with a remarkable 82.29% of orders opting for online payment methods.
