Google urges US govt to dismantle Microsoft's exclusive OpenAI deal on cloud hosting: Report

| @indiablooms | Dec 12, 2024, at 01:40 am

Google has urged the U.S. government to dismantle Microsoft's exclusive hosting agreement with OpenAI, the Information reported on Tuesday.

This request followed an inquiry by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission into Microsoft's practices as part of an ongoing investigation, the report stated.

Google and Amazon, rivals of Microsoft in the cloud server market, also seek to offer OpenAI's models on their platforms, aiming to provide their customers with direct access.

The report further indicates that companies purchase ChatGPT-maker OpenAI's technology through Microsoft might incur extra charges if they do not use Microsoft servers to run their operations.
