Kolkata/IBNS: Odissi dance exponent Guru Sanchita Bhattacharya completed 50 years of performing on stage on a day which also coincided with her birthday.

Holding stage performances from a young age, she has travelled across the globe with her repertoire, performing at some of the leading stages and rapt audiences.

She left her high profile job with an international bank to follow her passion.

Said Bhattacharya, “I feel like I have been dancing from my mother’s womb itself. Dancing on stage for 50 years ever since I was a little kid, and professionally dancing for  decades, it's now like breathing.”

Today she is not only honoured as an expert Odissi dancer but also as a teacher, a Guru who is keen to  create a long lasting impact by training the younger generation and help them make a career in classical dancing.

She said, “Dancing and taking our rich culture all over the world, getting all the love , recognition and accolades  and being able to serve my country through dance  I feel so humbled and honoured. I was born to parents who ardently shaped my dance career and the abundance of blessings from my Gurus.”

Guru Sanchita Bhattacharya celebrated the day by cutting a cake alongside her husband and legendary santoor maestro Tarun Bhattacharya at a city restaurant.
