Kolkata/IBNS: At a time when dark clouds of controversy seem to overwhelm Visva-Bharati, here is a video documentation which revisits the legacy of education and cultural transcendence that the university envisioned and nurtured.

Visva-Bharati, the globally famous educational institution was founded by Nobel Laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore.

The presentation is a tribute to the centenary celebration of the institution which propounded a value-based education, an open outlook to arts and of course a global perspective of knowledge.

The video documentation titled ‘Sheekkhatirtho’ is being presented by SPCkraft, an interdisciplinary arts collective helmed by popular theatre artist and TV and film personality, Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee, in association with Mohorbeethika Angan.

It has been scripted by Ketaki Mukherjee and anchored by Suparna Datta.

Looking back at the glorious years, luminaries such as Supriyo Tagore, Beethika Mukhopadhyay, Sharmila Ray Pomot, Pramita Mallick, Pabitra Sarkar, Martin Kaempchen, Basabi Fraser and many others including alumni from various parts of the world have shared their memories and their association with the Tagorean ouevre.

The documentation also includes performances by Srikanto Acharya, Bratoti Bandopadhyay, Lee Alison Sibley, Lysa Ahmad Lisa, Manoj Murali Nayar, Sasha Ghoshal, Srovonti Basu Bandopadhyay, Priyam Mukherjee, Ritapa Bhattacharya and members of SPCkraft.

Said Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee, "While the pandemic has almost crippled the education system in the country, I thought of understanding whether digitization has narrowed the walls or widened the horizons. Keeping all the political anarchy behind, this project should interest the youth to appreciate the essence of world-education that Tagore, a polymath, had introduced to India only 100 years back."

Sheekkhatirtho opens on June 12 at 9pm on the Facebook page of SPCkraft.
