Google is not shutting down Gmail

| @indiablooms | 23 Feb 2024, 03:38 pm

Gmail users were left in a tizzy after a viral post claimed that the service was “coming to a close”.

An email screenshot from Google titled ‘Google is sunsetting Gmail’ was shared on X and it spread like wildfire, triggering panic among users.

The fake message which spread on X claimed Google will be 'sunsetting' Gmail by 2024.

With people expressing their worries believing the hoax to be real, Gmail's official X page wrote: " Gmail is here to stay."

Gmail was launched on April 1, 2004 with the promise of providing fast email search and a storage limit of 1 GB—500 times more than prevailing inboxes of the time.

Gmail is now part of Google Workspace, the integrated solution that spans Docs, Slides, Sheets, Meet, Chat, and more—and that’s home to more than 3 billion global users.
