New Delhi, July 16 (IBNS): A man working as a JNU security guard has cracked the university's entrance test and is set to enrol in the Russian (Honours) programme, a News18 report said.

“In 2004, I had to stop my studies, but now I will continue my education," Ramjal Meena said in Hindi. "My father was alone in his struggle, I discontinued my studies and joined him to get money home.”

According to the report, Meena had to discontinue his studies in 2004 to help his family earn money to survive. He had joined his father to work as a labourer at a Rajasthan village called Karauli, where he was born.

In 2014, he joined JNU as a security guard. Meena is the oldest of his five siblings. He has three daughters.

“I studied for four, sometimes six hours a day. I had to work as well… for me, it was important to crack this exam,” the report quoted him as saying. The university teachers supported him and gave him preparation material.

“I chose Russian only because my heart was in language studies. I wanted to learn a foreign language,” he said.
