Jharkhand likely to give second language status to Bhojpuri and two other languages

Patna, Dec 23 (TheBIharPost/IBNS)): The Jharkhand state government is planning to accord Bhojpuri, Maithili and Magahi the status of second language in the state.

“The government has planned to give the status of second language to these three languages,” Jharkhand minister for labour employment and training Raj Paliwar announced on Thursday.


The minister made this announcement while addressing the 13th International Maithili Conference in Deoghar.

Bhojpuri is widely spoken in Jharkhand, and according to a report, 40 percent people in the state speak Bhojpuri.

Similarly, 20 percent people in the state is said to be speaking Maithili while Magahi is also spoken in certain pockets of the state.
