New Delhi/IBNS: General enthusiasts, researchers and scholars, keen for information regarding the ‘Vedic’ heritage and the 64 traditional arts of India can now refer to the ‘Vedic Heritage Portal’ and 'Kala Vaibhav' (a virtual museum), respectively, said Amit Shah, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation after he launched them recently in the national capital.

Vedic Heritage Portal and Kala Vaibhav have been initiated by the New Delhi based Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Culture (MoC).

The portal gives detailed information about oral traditions, textual tradition in the form of published books/manuscripts, or implements (Yajna related objects),

The Vedic Heritage Portal is available in Hindi and English.

There is also a plan to set up a virtual gallery of vessels used during “Yajna”; they have already collected 250 sacrificial vessels from Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

The event was attended by Union Minister of Culture and Development of North Eastern Region (DONER) Gangapuram Kishan Reddy; Rambahadur Rai, President, IGNCA; Uma Naduri, Joint Secretary, MoC; Dr. Sachichidanand Joshi, Member Secretary, IGNCA, and Dr. Sonal Mansingh, Rajya Sabha MP and Trustee, IGNCA among others.

The inauguration started with Vedic chanting by ‘Batuks’ (Vedpathis) from various ‘Gurukuls’ of the country and ‘Vidushis’ from Rohtak's Gurukul.

Guests also paid respect to Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev as the programme was being held on Martyr's Day.
Reddy also said that art is integral to Indian living style and this portal and museum will bring to people the rich heritage, art and culture of this country.

Rambahadur Rai said that Vedic heritage has a relationship with the ancient, contemporary or present times and it will be relevant in the future too.

Dr. Sachichidannad Joshi gave the formal vote of thanks.
