Kolkata's Sitar Festival to witness performances of noted Indian sitarists

Kolkata/IBNS: Annapurna Devi Foundation is set to bring the "Sitar Festival" to Kolkata.

Earlier, this organisation grabbed attention by organizing the Sarod Festival.

The three-day sitar festival will start from March 10.

Eminent musicians, who are known for playing different genres of sitar, will perform at the event. 

Be it Maihar or Bishnupur, Indore or Rampur Senia, Kirana or Etawah, this initiative is a unique event for music lovers of the city.

Vidushi Mita Nag will be accompanied on Tabla by Indrani Mallick, Pandit Surendra Rao on Sitar and Pandit Tanmoy Bose will be on Tabla on March 10.

On March 11, Purbayan Chattopadhyay will be accompanied by Ishan Ghosh on tabla, later Harshankar Bhattacharya will perform on Sitar, Parimal Chakraborty on tabla on Mar 12, Sitar recital by Sahana Banerjee, Ustad Rafiq Khan, Ustad Shahid Parvez accompanied by Rupak Bhattacharya, Ramdas Palsule, Hindol Majumdar on tabla respectively.

The festival is organized at G.D.Birla Sabhaghar, Kolkata, at 6 pm daily.

Nityananda Haldipur, on behalf of the organisers, said, "Six genres of sitar music will be performed for three evenings in the spring. Along with the famous sitar artists, the famous percussionists will accompany. I hope the city of Kolkata will witness an event of this kind."
