Kolkata, Oct 26 (IBNS): Kolkata saw the unveiling of an international puppet festival on Thursday at Mohor Kunj, with a procession of puppeteers from across the globe, a host of school children and performing artists.

Called the PUN International Puppet Festival, it has been organised by the Masti Makers - The Human Puppets group, from Rajasthan, along with West Bengal Tourism and a host of other private organisations.

The festival not only aims to revive the attraction of puppets as a source of entertainment as well as their making but also focus on how puppeteers can spread awareness messages in an informal way.

The festival in Kolkata is themed on Puppets Unite Neighbours.

Until October 31, the puppeteers will move across various venues in Kolkata, regaling the audience with tales from their countries.

Besides puppeteers from West Bengal, Rajasthan and other Indian states, the festival will also showcase puppeteers from UK, Germany, Singapore, Portugal, Lithuania, Peru, Italy and Brazil.

One of the biggest attraction on the inaugural day were the human puppets, where the participants are body painted to look like puppets.
