Bengali folk singer Kalika Prasad dies in a car accident

Burdwan/Kolkata, Mar 7 (IBNS):Popular Bengali folk singer Kalika Prasad Bhattacharjee died in a car accident in West Bengal's Hoogly district on Tuesday morning.

Reports said Bhattacharjee was on his way from a show when his car was hit by a truck and it fell in a ditch on Durgapur expressway at  Gurap, Hoogly.

The singer was accompanied by four other singers of his Bangla band Dohar in the car.

He was  taken to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital where he was declared  dead.

Bhattacharya was the lead singer of the Bangla band Dohar.

Tollywood actors like Parambrata Chatterjee and Swastika Mukherjee said that they were shocked and devastated to hear the news.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee expressed her grief on twitter.

"Shocked at the tragic demise of Kalikaprasad Bhattacharjee of Dohar . His passing is a big loss to Bengali music," Mamata tweeted.

He was 56.
