Mitchell Marsh opts for county stint for Surrey over IPL

India Blooms News Service | | 20 Oct 2017, 05:50 pm
London, Oct 20 (IBNS): British cricket club Surrey on Friday said it has signed cricketer Mitchell Marsh as overseas player for the 2018 season.

Interestingly, the club announced that Marsh, 26, will play for the club in all forms of cricket and, having foregone the chance to pursue an IPL contract, will be with Surrey throughout the summer, subject to any Australian commitments.

The cricketer will be available for the club for the start of the Specsavers County Championship campaign.

He has played 21 Test Matches, 48 One Day Internationals and nine T20 Internationals for Australia, scoring over 2,000 runs and taking more than 70 wickets.

Speaking after signing his deal, Marsh was quoted as saying by the lub website: “I’m extremely excited to join Surrey for the 2018 season. The opportunity to challenge myself in English conditions is something I can’t wait for."

“I have followed the team closely this year and hopefully I’ll be able to contribute to some silverware, along with helping a young squad grow and improve," he said.

He said: "The opportunity to work with Michael di Venuto and Alec Stewart is also very exciting. Bring on 2018!”
