Sydney, July 16 (IBNS): Former Australian bowler Jason Gillespie has said he had seriously thought long about applying for the job as India's coach.

He dropped the plan later.

Speaking to Cricket Australia website, the former cricketer said: "I to'ed and fro'ed. I had days where I thought, 'right, I'm definitely applying for it, I'm going to have a crack and see how far I get."

"Other days where I wasn't so sure. In the end I just felt I wasn't quite ready for that opportunity," he said.

He congratulated current Indian team coach Ravi Shastri for being appointed to the post.

"I think it would have been a wonderful job and I congratulate Ravi Shastri on getting that job." he said.

Currently, Gillespie has taken charge of Papua New Guinea on an interim basis.

Ravi Shastri was appointed to the post recently.

The appointment of a new coach became necessary after former Indian skipper Anil Kumble left the job after Champions Trophy.
