Sunny Leone's condom advertisement strikes controversy for linking Navratri

Surat, Sep 19 (IBNS): Bollywood actress Sunny Leone's latest condom advertisement for Manforce, the company she endorses, has raised a controversy in Surat for linking festival Navratri to it, media reports said.

Leone, who is the brand ambassador of Manforce, was seen indirectly appealing for a safe sex in the hoarding which was hung on the streets of Surat.

The hoarding, which carried the advertisement, reads, "Aa Navratri a ramo, parantu premthi" which translates in English as Play but with love, this Navratri.

However, the line has not been well accepted by a Hindu group based in Surat.

Narendra Chaudhary, businessman and president of Hindu Yuva Vahini, told The Times of India that the insinuation in the advertisement is an insult to the religious sentiment of Hindus.

"This cannot be tolerated and our protests will get stronger if these hoardings are not removed immediately. Protests are necessary to deter others from trying something similar again in future," Chaudhary was quoted by the The Times of India.

The Hindu group even staged a protest in the city.

On the other hand, taking a step forward, The Confederation of All India Traders, wrote a letter to consumer affairs minister, Ram Vilas Paswan.

The CAIT, in the letter, called the advertisement, a "clear irresponsible and immature attempt to boost sales by putting all our cultural value system at stake", India Today reported.
