5 people died, six others critically injured after consuming toxic liquor in Upper Assam

Guwahati, Sept 24 (IBNS) : At least five people were killed and six others critically injured after consuming toxic liquor in Assam’s Tinsukia district on Sunday.

The incident took place at Talap area near Doomdooma in the Upper Assam district.

Tinsukia district Superintendent of Police Mugdhajyoti Mahanta said the incident occurred due to consume toxic country liquor.

“Recently the police and excise team had raided and seized few quantity of illegal liquor from a house owned by Ganju and he could likely to sell the toxic country made liquor today,” Mahanta said.

At least 11 people felt ill after consuming the toxic liquor and they were immediately rushed to nearest hospital, where five persons had lost their lives.

Six other persons were admitted at hospital and doctors said that their conditions are in critical.

The deceased persons were identified as Biswanath Tanti, Papu Thakur, David Kashyap, Biswanath Kashyap and Santosh Karmakar.

“Investigation is going on and wait for the post mortem report,” Mahanta said.

Meanwhile, Tinsukia DC had ordered an inquiry into the incident.

On the other hand, following the directive by Assam excise minister Parimal Suklabaidya, Superintendent of Excise of Tinsukia district, had filed an FIR into the incident.
