Kolkata, Sep 19 (IBNS): Although Ma Durga rules in Kolkata during the autumn festival but there that there is room for all in keeping with the city's cosmopolitan nature is amply proved by the Navaratri and Dussehra celebrations that take place in various parts of the city.

This year, one of the most attractive Dussehra celebration will take place in Kolkata's eastern fringe, at the Salt Lake Central Park on Sep 30.

The Salt Lake Sanskritik Sansad Committee will break its own record from the previous year and create a 60-feet tall Ravana effigy against last year's 50 feet, said the organisers.

This year even the effigies of Meghnad and Kumbhakaran are about 60 feet tall.

The effigies will be set on fire to mark the win of good over evil.

Speaking about the event, Lalit Beriwala, President of Salt Lake Sanskritik Sansad said, “We have made special arrangements at Central Park ground to celebrate the victory of good over evil, Besides burning of the 60-feet-tall effigy of a strongly built Ravana, we will be also organising a separate fire show during the event. We have hired artistes from various states to perform during the function. The fireworks would continue for about 45 minutes. Apart from this, a series of rituals will be performed before the burning of the effigy around 7pm. We are expecting a turnout of over 25,000 people this year.”

The organisers also said that on both days, there will be cultural programmes both on Sep 29 and 30, where there will be Disco Dandia with Apurv Shahh and band from Mumbai, performances by Shri Rama Nataka Niketan from Hydrabad, the most popular contestant of Dance+3, Adrika Dance Troupe, etc.
