Tamarind introduces North Indian kebab festival in Kolkata

Kolkata, Aug 11 (IBNS): Restaurant Tamarind, which is famous for its South Indian cuisine, has introduced North Indian kebab festival for the first time in Kolkata.

The kebab festival has been named as #Hokkebab.

The festival started from Aug 10 and will run till 19th of the same month.

The festival was launched earlier this week by Radio Jockey-host-actor-singer Mir, Bengali film director Kamaleshwar Mukherjee and actor-writer Padmananbha Dasgupta.

Remembering his childhood romance with kebab, Mir said: "Kebab is a comfort food. Everyone loves to eat kebab in any mood. It is same for me. I have been brought up at a place in Kolkata where kebab was very available. It is my all time favourite. I can have kebab during any time of a day. I have no reservations about the type of kebabs."

The menu at Tamarind has been curated to offer tandoori delights and not just conventional tikkas made from meat but also delicacies prepared with fish and sea food.

On his expectations from the festival, Mukherjee said: "The perfection and meticulousness with which the South Indian cuisine was served, I think they will also do very good with the North Indian cuisine as well."

Some of the food items which the food lovers must indulge themselves are Tandoori Stuffed Paneer Tikka, the minced Soya Keema kebab, the juicy mushroom Nawabi Dhingra kebab, Mutton Chapli kebab, Ghondhoraj Murg Malai Tikk, spicy Tandoori Pomfret and Tandoori Jhinga.

Padmananbha even called the festival as "heaven on earth". "This is fantastic. It is like heaven on earth. Actually kebab is my favourite dish."

A meal for a vegetarian couple will cost Rs 800 and for a non-vegetarian will cost Rs 1100 excluding taxes for both.

Speaking on the introduction of the festival, Tamarind owner-partner, Gautam Purkayastha said: "At Tamarind, we believe in change and novelty. Having been a highly awarded restaurant for the cuisine of southern India we are now ready to offer guests flavours of the north with out festival."
