India being a hub of engineers, annually produces more than 1.5 million engineers. But in such a competitive environment, where demand for engineers is getting saturated day by day, only skills and distinguishing capabilities can help anyone in standing out from the lot or the crowd.

This is where GATE exam can help you!!

Thinking how?

GATE is known to be one of the toughest examinations in our country so qualifying GATE is considered to be an achievement in itself.

The exam pattern of GATE is such that it thoroughly checks an aspirant’s engineering knowledge as well as managerial skills.

That is why the Engineering portion of the written exam holds 70% weightage while Mathematics and General Knowledge holds 15% only.

Due to these reasons apart from Post Graduate Admissions, your GATE score is also useful in many other aspects. Like you can get placed in PSUs, get a stipend while doing your PhD and you can also seek admission into foreign universities.

So, before we move ahead and enrich your knowledge regarding career prospects and scope after qualifying this exam.

Let’s first introduce you to GATE exam:

GATE:

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), is one of the most sought-after engineering entrance examination in the country.

But unlike IIT-JEE, GATE is known to provide admission in postgraduate engineering courses.

Thus, GATE is majorly an admission gateway to various post graduate courses offered by the best institutes of the country.

GATE is conducted by IITs and IISc on a rotation basis, on behalf of National Co-ordination Board-GATE.

While GATE 2017 was conducted by IISc Bangalore, GATE 2018 is to be conducted by IIT Guwahati. GATE consists of 65 questions which are to be answered in 3 hours. Candidates can choose any specializations from the 23 for which it is held.

Benefits of Appearing for GATE

5-Pointers to highlight the importance of GATE exam for your career growth:

1- You can get to study with the best minds of the country

Every engineering aspirant dreams of studying in the IITs. However, not everyone gets the chance to study in them.

But if you have an unfulfilled dream of getting into an IIT or other top collegesof the country, GATE can provide you a second chance.

Through a good GATE score, you caneasily get admission in M.Tech./M.E./Ph.D. programs in the top institutions of the country and can get the chance to study among the brightest engineering minds.

2- You can gain employment in the best PSUs of the country

Many candidates aspire to work in PSUs, due to many factors like job stability, eased out work culture of PSUs or for fringe benefits.

Do you know? A lot of Public Sector Companies accept candidates on the basis of their GATE scores, which again increases the viability of the exam.

Some big names in Indian Public Sector like IOCL, BPCL, GAIL, BSNL, NTPC, BHEL, HPCL, ONGC and many others have been recruiting candidates on the basis of GATE score.

So, if you want to work in a PSU, GATE is the test you need to qualify.

3- You can get the best of fellowships along with scholarships

One major advantage that GATE offers is that you can get to complete your PhD at some of the greatest technological places in the country, along with handsome scholarships and stipends.

CSIR’s laboratories offers Junior Research Fellow and Senior Research Fellow posts on the basis of GATE score, in which candidates can complete their Doctorate by doing research work at CSIR’s laboratories and get stipends of INR 25000 per month.

AICTE also provides scholarships to candidates pursuing M.Tech. on the basis of GATE scores.

Institutes like BARC also offers courses to candidates on the basis of GATE scores, and candidates do get good amount of stipend in such courses.

4- A good GATE score can increase your job growth perspective

After pursuing any post graduate course in engineering, your scope for growth in job will increase exponentially.

Although B.Tech. from any top institute can lead you to a high paying job, but an M.Tech makes you an expert in that field.

Thus you can get better technical job opportunities after doing M.Tech through GATE.  Also, after doing Ph.D. through GATE you canteach in some of the top institutes of the country, which again is a very respectful job.
