Torontonians will enjoy free Bike Shares on Wednesdays in July

Toronto, June 23 (IBNS) Bike Share Toronto, which is owned by Toronto Parking Authority(TPA) is all set to offer free rides every Wednesday in July, thus celebrating the 150 years of Canada in a greener way.

Mayor John Tory on behalf of the City of Toronto and the Toronto Parking Authority (TPA) Friday announced that starting on Wednesday, July 5 Bike Share Toronto will offer free rides every Wednesday in the month of July.

On all Wednesdays, during the month of July locals and tourists alike will be able to see the city from two wheels for free rent a bike for up to 30 minutes and it is free.

Mayor Tory also said: “We are committed to improving mobility of the people around the city, and that includes investing in bike sharing to make it easier to travel around by bike.”

“Cycling is a great way to get around the city, it’s good for fitness and it’s good for the environment. I encourage all Toronto residents and visitors to the city to take advantage of Free Ride Wednesdays in July.” the Mayor added.

“We’re very pleased to offer this promotion to Torontonians,” said Toronto Parking Authority

Lorne Persiko, President of Toronto Parking Authority was also very pleased to offer this promotion to Torontonian and tourists visiting the city during the month.

In his comment Lorne said, “It’s one way we can thank Torontonians for making Bike Share Toronto such a success, as witnessed by the increased number of rides month over month, and at the same time celebrate Canada 150.”

More and more Torontonians are recognizing the benefits of bike sharing in the city.

June 21 saw a new record when the number of rides in a single day hit 6,491. In May of 2017 there were 110,096 rides, nearly double the 68,665 rides in May of last year.

Bike Share Toronto now has almost 9,000 active members and served up 830,000 rides last year. Riders have travelled a total of 15,864,047 kilometers since 2011, offsetting 3,014,169 kilograms of Co2 emissions.

According to Bike Share the system of free share will work for the first 30 minutes of the trip  is free of charge. The biker is required to insert their credit card at any of the 200 bike share stations across the city on Wednesdays in July and select the “One Day Pass” option. Then grab their bike and ride through Toronto for up to a maximum of 30 minutes at a time.

The rider can return their bike at any bike station. However, Fees will be applied over the allotted 30 minutes. But the biker can take out another bike for free for the next 30 minutes ride from the biking station and may continue the entire day or as many times the biker likes.
