Kolkata, Aug 12 (IBNS): 56000 dealers have registered for GST in West Bengal and so far this is the highest enrolment from a state, said Arjun Ram Meghwal, MoS for Finance & Corporate Affairs at a seminar in Kolkata on Saturday.

He said, so far 13.2 lakh new enrolment has been made in the country for GST within the first 11 days.

Describing 2017 as the ‘Year of Economic Reform’, the Minister said GST stands for ‘Good and Simple Tax’ as well and people are gradually getting to understand the strength and beneficial aspect of it.

The government is keen to utilize technology in tax reforms as this is the order of the day and as a result, a huge sum of Rs.57000 crores have been saved, he added.

In this context, Meghwal referred to a IMF survey to point out that India will become the 3rd largest economy after USA & China by 2030 and thus it will be proved that 21st century will be the most glorious one for Asia.

Mentioning the increase in tax net of Direct Tax, he stated 91 lakh new tax payers have been registered this year and it resulted in a net increase of 20% Direct Tax revenue.

The Minister also replied to a number of queries raised by the members at the end of his address.

Later,  Meghwal addressed another interactive session on GST in the city organized by Merchant Chamber of Commerce.
