Southwest Monsoon likely to hit Kerala coast on June 5

New Delhi, June 2 (IBNS) Giving relief to millions of people in India, the Southwest Monsoon is likely to hit the Kerala coast on June 5, officials said.

Union Minister for Earth Sciences Harsh Vardhan said: "Onset over Kerala is likely to take place around 5th June."

In the second stage long range forecast of monsoon, the India Meteorological Department said: "Rainfall over the country as a whole for the 2015 southwest monsoon season (June to September) is likely to be deficient (<90% of LPA)."

It said: "Quantitatively, the season rainfall for the country as a whole is likely to be 88% of the long period average (LPA) with a model error of ±4%. The LPA rainfall over the country as a whole for the period 1951-2000 is 89 cm."
