North India to witness dense fog and severe cold for next 3-5 days: IMD

New Delhi/IBNS/UNI: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Monday predicted that dense to very dense fog and cold day to severe cold day conditions will continue to prevail over North India for the next 3-5 days.

“Dense to very dense fog conditions very likely to prevail over some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh during the night on January 22 to 27 morning,” IMD stated.

“Dense Fog conditions very likely in isolated places over Delhi during 22nd night and 27th January morning,” it said.

Similar conditions are also likely to prevail over the isolated pockets of Rajasthan from Monday night to Friday morning and in isolated pockets of north Madhya Pradesh.

“Dense fog conditions very likely to prevail in morning hours in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Odisha, Assam & Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura during 22nd night to 24th January morning; Bihar during 22nd night to 27th January morning and Gangetic West Bengal during 22nd night to 23rd morning,” it said.

The weather department said, "Cold day to severe cold day conditions very likely to continue in some parts of Punjab, Haryana during 22nd-23rd and cold day conditions in isolated pockets on 24th January 2024”

Parts of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, and north Madhya Pradesh are also likely to witness cold days to severe cold day conditions during this period.

Cold day conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of West Bengal and Sikkim on Sunday, it said.

Light rainfall and snowfall are likely over the Western Himalayan Region from Jan 25, the IMD said.

The weather department predicted a rise in minimum temperatures by 2-3°C during the next 5 days over northwest India. No significant change in minimum temperatures is very likely over the rest of the country during the next 5 days, it said.
