Nine die after flash flood devastates Nepal-China border, road to border port reopens
The section of the National Highway 216 leading to Gyirong Port in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, which was damaged due to the flash flood which hit the region on Thursday, was reopened on Friday.
Emergency response teams promptly began repair work using methods such as gravel backfilling to restore access, reported Xinhua news agency.
Authorities told the news agency that 24-hour monitoring and maintenance will continue to ensure the road's safety and stability.
Flash floods struck the Gyirong Port area along the China-Nepal border on Tuesday.
More than 300 people, including several Nepali individuals, have been safely relocated after the flash flood hit the region.
According to reports, nine people died and 18 others were injured due to the flash flood which hit the region.
"I was trapped in the area across the river due to the flood. I had warned my friends to get across, but the flood swept them away, and I survived by going to the upper land areas that day (Tuesday)," Ram Bahadur Tharu, a survivor of the flooding along the Nepal-China border, told ANI.
According to reports, the internet, electricity and telephone service in the area were badly hit by the flood.
