Nepal avalanche horror: 4 bodies recovered, 12 remain missing
At least four bodies have been recovered following an avalanche on Himlung Himal in Nepal’s Manang region, while rescuers are continuing efforts to locate 12 people who remain missing, media reports said.
The Nepal National Mountain Guide Association (NNMGA) said two bodies recovered on Monday were identified as those of Birendra Gurung and Ghanshyam Rai, The Kathmandu Post reported.
According to local reports, the other two deceased have been identified as Chhebi Bhote and Pasang Bhote.
NNMGA President Tul Singh Gurung told the newspaper that the association’s search and rescue team continued its operation in the avalanche-hit area on Monday.
“Four bodies have been recovered and identified. Twelve people are still missing, and the search for them is continuing,” Gurung said.
Rescuers are planning to continue the search operation for a few more hours, provided weather and other conditions remain favourable.
The incident comes just weeks after another deadly disaster, reportedly linked to the collapse of a glacier, killed nearly 1,400 people in Nepal and Tibet, while more than 5,000 people remain missing.
