Nearly 28 lakh people hit by Assam flood, death toll rises to 95

Guwahati/IBNS: Assam flood situation turned more worse on Friday as the water levels of all major rivers in the state are rising following torrential rains and more areas being inundated by the flood waters.

Nearly 28 lakh people of 26 districts of the state are affected in the deluge.

Two more died due to flood on Friday, taking the state death toll to 95.

One each person drowned in flood waters in Nagaon and Sivasagar district.

According to the flood reports of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDA), nearly 28 lakh people of 26 districts – Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Biswanath, Darrang, Baksa, Nalbari, Barpeta, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, South Salmara, Goalpara, Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro), Morigaon, Nagaon, Golaghat, Jorhat, Majuli, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, West Karbi Anglong, Cachar are affected in the deluge.

1.17 lakh hectares of crop lands of 2577 villages under 73 revenue circles in the flood hit districts are currently under flood water.

The ASDMA flood report also stated that 48163 people have taken shelter at 295 relief camps set up by the administration.

On the other hand, the water level of mighty Brahmaputra river is flowing above danger level at Guwahati, Neamatighat in Jorhat district, Tezpur in Sonitpur district, Goalpara and Dhubri districts.

According to the ASDMA, 212 embankments, 182 bridges, culverts and 1720 roads have been damaged by flood waters across the state.
