Kishtwar (Jammu Kashmir): A massive landslide blocked the Kishtwar-Paddar road on Sunday as light to moderate rains hit isolated areas in the Jammu division, bringing relief from heatwave, media reported.

Officials reported that the landslide, triggered by the rains, occurred near Patharnaki in Kishtwar district, halting vehicular movement, according to the Times of India.

Efforts are underway with machinery deployed to clear the road as soon as possible.

The weather remained overcast across the Jammu region, with light to moderate rains reported in various hilly districts, including Kishtwar, Doda, Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur, and Ramban. Jammu city also experienced light rainfall early in the morning and again in the evening.

A meteorological department spokesperson said that Jammu recorded a high of 36 degrees Celsius and a low of 26.3 degrees Celsius, typical for this season.

Katra, the base camp for pilgrims visiting the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Reasi district, saw a maximum of 32.9 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 24.6 degrees Celsius.

The spokesperson said light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely in many places across the Jammu division from late night through early morning until July 3.

Intermittent light to moderate rainfall is expected at most locations, with heavy showers anticipated at some places from July 4 to 7.

An advisory has been issued for potential flash floods, landslides, and shooting stones in vulnerable areas, along with moderate thunderstorms or lightning in certain places in the coming week.
