An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter Scale hit Japan's Noto region in Ishikawa prefecture early Monday (June 3, 2024), the country's weather agency said.

No tsunami warning has been issued so far.

The 6:31 a.m. quake, occurring at a depth of around 10 kilometers, registered upper 5 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in the cities of Wajima and Suzu, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency as quoted by Kyodo.

A series of strong quakes of up to 7.6 magnitude rattled the Noto region and its vicinity and triggered a tsunami on January 1.
