Lombok, Indonesia, July 31 (IBNS): At least 16 people have died and another 330 injured, as an earthquake of 6.4 magnitude struck Indonesia's Lombok island on Sunday, reports said.

Over 500 people, mostly hikers, have been evacuated, officials informed the media.

The quake triggered a massive landslide around Mount Rinjani, blocking all escape routes.

Hundreds of people are staying in makeshift shelters amid continuing aftershocks.

The country is prone to such quakes as it lies on the Ring of Fire, a major area in the basin of the Pacific Ocean where earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur.
