Kaziranga flood: 39 animals including five rhinos died

Guwahati, July 17 (IBNS): At least 39 wild animals including five rhinos have died in the devastating deluge in Assam’s Kaziranga National Park.

According to the park authority, over 90 per cent of the world heritage site is still under water and 39 wild animals including five rhinos have died in the flood.

169 forest camps in the national park are still under water.

Among the wild animals, four rhinos, 7 hog deer, three wild boar, one elephant and one sambar were drowned in flood waters in the park.

On the other hand, 10 hog deer and 1 sambar were died in vehicle hit, while the wild animals have been forced to move to neighbouring hill areas in Karbi Anglong district following the flood.

According to the park authority, one rhino and eight hog deer were died in other reasons in the national park during the current flood.

The forest officials, CWRC and the locals have rescued 52 wild animals including two rhino calves, 44 hog deer, one baby elephant, one swamp deer, one sambar and three other animals from the park and adjoining areas.
