New Delhi/IBNS: In a slight increase in daily cases, India on Thursday reported 48,786 new COVID-19 infections besides registering 1,005 deaths apparently due to the virus in the last 24 hours.

In 24 hours between Wednesday and Thursday mornings, 61,588 COVID-19 patients have recovered, taking the discharge figure to 2,94,88,918.

As per the Health Ministry's data, the country's active cases have decreased to 5,23,257.

The daily recoveries have outnumbered the new infections for the 49th straight day.

The South Asian country, which has centralised its vaccination policy from Jun 21, has so far inoculated 33.57 crore people aged 18 or more.

Giving more strength to India's vaccination drive, native drug making company Zydus Cadila has applied to the country's drug regulator (DCGI) for an emergency use approval of its anti-COVID-19 vaccine, named ZyCov-D.

Four vaccines, Moderna, AstraZeneca's Indian version Covishield, indigenous Covaxin and Russia's Sputnik, have so far been approved by the country for their uses.
