India registers 6,987 new COVID-19 cases in last 24 hours
New Delhi/IBNS: Amid the rapid spread of the Omicron variant, India on Sunday registered 6,987 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours.
The country's active cases account for less than 1 percent of total cases, currently at 0.22 percent.
With the fresh cases, India's active caseload currently stands at 76,766.
The recovery rate of India is presently at 98.40 percent, which is the highest since March 2020.
A total of 7,091 recoveries were recorded in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the number of cases of the Omicron variant has risen to 422 in India, with Maharashtra reporting the most number of infections.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Nraendra Modi announced "precaution doses" for front-line workers and those above 60 from Jan 10.
The government has also approved vaccination shots for children aged 15 and 18 years and the vaccination drive will start from Jan 3.
