India logs 36,083 fresh coronavirus cases, 493 deaths

New Delhi/UNI: India recorded 36,083 fresh coronavirus infections and 493 fatalities in the past 24 hours, pushing the infection tally to 32,192,576 and the death toll to 431,225.

The number of infections dropped marginally by 6.6 per cent from Saturday.

According to the Union Health Ministry, the active cases declined by 2,337, to stand at 3,85,336. It is now 1.20 per cent of the total caseload.

On the recovery front, 37,927 patients were cured and discharged in the past one day, taking the total recovery count to 3,13,76,015, which is 97.46 per cent of the case tally. The fatality rate remained steady at 1.34 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 49,36,24,440 samples have been tested so far for coronavirus. Of this, 19,23,863 were tested on Saturday.

Till now, 54,38,46,290 people have been administered COVID-19 vaccines, with 73,50,553 being inoculated against the virus in the past 24 hours.
