The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday predicted heavy rainfall over Northeast India and heatwave conditions over parts of central and peninsular India for this week.

According to IMD, enhanced rainfall and thunderstorms will continue over Northeast India until April 7.

“A cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Assam and another over northeast Bihar at lower tropospheric levels. Under its influence, isolated to scattered light rainfall is likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the next 7 days, with isolated thunderstorms and lightning from April 1 to 3,” the IMD said.

“Fairly widespread to widespread light and snowfall with isolated thunderstorms and lightning very likely over Arunachal Pradesh; scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura during April 1 to 5,” it said.

The weather department also predicted isolated light rainfall over Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada during April 5-7 over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Telangana, and Karnataka on April 6 and 7.

The IMD said, “Two Western disturbances are likely to affect the Western Himalayan region, due to which scattered light to moderate rainfall and snowfall are very likely over the Western Himalayan region during the next 7 days and isolated light to moderate rainfall over adjoining plains of Northwest India during April 3-5.”

“Isolated thunderstorms and lightning are likely over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh till April 5,” the IMD said.

“Heat wave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets over North Interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, East Madhya Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Vidarbha, and Jharkhand till April 5,” the IMD said.

It also predicted warm night conditions in isolated pockets over Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada on April 1 and 2, and over Odisha on April 2–5.

On hot and humid weather, the IMD said these conditions are very likely to prevail over Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from April 1–5 over Odisha from tomorrow until April 5.
