Flood hits Nagaland’s Dimapur : Indian army, Assam Rifles personnel rescue stranded villagers
Guwahati/IBNS : Around 300 families have been affected after the flood waters of Diphu and Dhansiri river submerged several colonies, villages at Dimapur in Nagaland.
Water levels of Diphu and Dhansiri river have risen following heavy downpour in past 72 hours and the flood waters entered into several colonies, villages of Dimapur.
According to Dimapur district administration, colonies like Sachu, Zeliangrong, Nagarjan, Bor Lengiri, Domokhia village areas have been the worst affected.
On the hand, the Indian army and Assam Rifles personnel are engaged in rescue operation.
The troops of Indian army and Assam Rifles undertook evacuation of a large number of elderly, women and children stuck in their houses in the rising waters of Diphu and Dhansiri river.
With rains lashing Dimapur for three consecutive days and nights, the residents of Domokhia village found their houses submerged in knee deep waters.
On the auspicious morning of the festival of lights Diwali, residents of Domokhia found their homes lightless and dark.
The district administration proactively requisitioned the services of the Indian army and Assam Rifles to rescue the stranded villagers.
As has been the norm, the security forces rose to the occasion and swung into action to bring back cheers into the life of the distraught locals.
The combined team of Indian army, Assam Rifles and district administration reached the spot and evacuated all locals safely to the relief camp established by the district administration in the village.
The locals were provided with hot food by the troops of Indian army and Assam Rifles and the relief camp was provided lighting arrangements and drinking water facilities too.
